Need your help again, Tranny question

Here is a run down on what I have, it is an 1989 ford f250 4x4 with a 7.3 diesel and a 3 speed auto I just got the truck and I am trying to learn as much as I can, my problem is the tranny is slipping alot, when stoped at a stop light the truck doesn`t want to get going so I feather the gas and it rolls away, if I give it to much gas it slips once it goes into second gear its the same as first and when it finaly hits third if feels OK , is there anything I can do for the tranny to help it without droping it? Also what is the normal RPM`s before the tranny changes gears? mine hits 2700 before it changes, to me it sounds like the motor is screming is there a way I can change it to shift at around 2000 RPM`s.
or do you think I should just drop it and have it rebuilt. thanks again for y6ou help Randy....

First start off by checking the usual. Make sure the fluid level is good and make sure that the fluid looks good. It should be a nice red color. If it is burnt you should be able to tell by the smell but visually it will be brownish in color. If the fluid is burnt that is probably bad news. But you could still try a a new filter and a tranny flush and see if that helps at all. Start with the least expensive and more obvious areas and then work your way up from there. It sounds like you might have a C6 but I am not sure what they put behind diesel's sometimes. You could adjust or have your bands adjusted (if possible) to see if that does anything.

The bands can be adjusted with the tranny in the truck. You don't even have to drop the pan. A Haynes manual will tell you the procedure. Good luck.
