Ok, probably doing the head gaskets soon, read a whole lot of posts on here about a whole lot of stuff, great info!
Anyway, I saw a few items that are "Motorcraft Only" like glowplugs and Thermostat. I am getting an order together to replace those items, are there any other "must have" Motorcraft parts?
Hahha, nope neither young or terrible spry, but I plan to lift the heads in and out with my small engine hoist hopefully. I am going to pull the head that is visibly leaking, and if that comes apart ok, then the other one. If it kicks my butt too hard, I may leave the drivers side well enough alone.
How are the exhaust manifolds on these? Will I probably break bolts getting it off? Should I pull the head with the manifold still on it and attack it out of the truck? I know I should probably pull the whole engine, but don't really have the facilities to do that...
It is actually faster to pull the engine to change head gaskets.
Plus you get a much better job standing on a flat surface than laying on top of the engine.
