Nightmare 7.3!!
After much research decided to change the injection cups (without a pressure test) guessing for 200 dollars in parts if it didnt work I would go on to the next step.
Well, still had the problem so called the Ford stealership and almost had a heart attack even without a quote...100 bucks an hour with at least 25 to 30 hours then the parts!!! Guessing at least 5 k to pull the heads pressure test (hope it isnt a head) and cups...
Well, I was trying to find a mechanic locally and not having much luck, either was as expensive as the dealer, or were swamped with work and were not really enthusiastic about tackling the job....
Fellow I used to work with heard my story and suggested a relative and I gave the fellow a call..."yea I can fix it" and gave me a "relative" price.
Well, 2 months later, finally complete...about 2500 for the job...included "according to the work bill" new head bolts gaskets and pressure tested heads twice (once after pulling heads and all 8 cups that i boogered up) and a retest (after taking heads to the dealership and having them install the cups).
Get the call truck is ready ( I stayed over Friday and Saturday and sat by the dang truck and practically made the mechanic stay till he got the thing together). We test drive it and runs like a scaled dog....
Come by Monday as he told me he wanted to basically idle the truck for an hour or so and then flush/change oil on the truck....
Crank the truck and notice the check engine light comes on...tells me the glow plug controller throwing the code....No problem I can pop one on that I have in my toolbox (basically ready to get this truck away from these guys)....
Drive it about 60 miles... runs fine no misses, runs cool, idles fine...Stop at blockbuster and then no fire...turns over and nothing
Only 3 miles from home... leave it overnight and come back this morning and truck cranks fine (engine light on)...get it home and check the codes on my hypertech programmer and throws these codes...p1000; p 0340; p0610;p0603; p01210The truck cranks runs fine..( hard start one time but fired after a couple of seconds) One is the crankshaft sensor and the glowplug controller? others really make no sense as far as a sensor reading? Anyone got any input.....new batteries put in on Monday, I had the hypertec programmer on it but have removed back to stock. CPS I can put in.... anyone have any input?
Also here is a list of P-codes that you can look up.
TroubleCodes.net- engine & OBD2 Trouble Codes and Technical info & Tool Store.
.
Check injection control pressures sensor on the left head and the injection pressure regulator on the bottom of the high pressure pump.
Check the wiring for those too.
Thanks for the help... I live just north of Jackson Ms if anyone knows a honest mechanic nearby...pm me..
Thanks
