Hey guys. I have a 68/71 ford f100. The engine runs smooth as heck but bog down when I gun it. Black smoke comes out of the exhaust on start-up too. It is a stock 4v 351 with a performer intake and a edelbrock 600cfm carb. I tried a carb spacer, it didnt work very good. I felt like it would have if I would tune the carb. Now it misses a bit at idle too. I want it to run great!! What do u think???
If you have black smoke at start up, check to make sure the choke is set corectly and
that the idle mixture is set correct. Use a vacuum gauge for the idle mixture adjustment.
If it bogs when you punch it and you have black smoke then too, the fuel enrichment
circuit should be checked. I don't know much about how to adjust an Edelbrock carb
but the functions are the same on most carbs. Get a copy of the instructions that
came with your carb. They should have some good info on tuning or go to Edelbrock's
website.
Thanks old hickory. You were a great help. Conanski, I needed to get pointed in the right direction. If your gonna be a jerk dont post. Its as simple as that. BUT I have read some of your smarta$$ comments before and they are pretty funny. I have never tuned a edelbrock before. My father used to tune my carbs by sound. But that isnt possible anymore. Thanks guys!!!
