Talking Floating Gears?

My sister was in town last weekend, and she let me take her 10spd Freightliner for a spin, got to practice on double-clutching, and floating gears. While on my way to work last night, I tried to float gears in my truck, and it worked quite well. I figured doing this often enough could extend the life of my throwout bearing. You don't think this could hurt the tranny though. It doesn't make any unusual noises when I do this. It's a rather smooth transition. Does anyone else float gears on a regular basis? For those who may not know, floating gears is shifting without stepping on the clutch pedal.

Floating Gears?

I do this in my '73 all the time. I use the clutch to get moving, then just shift without the clutch. As long as you don't force it and there is no grinding, it shouldn't hurt anything.

Floating Gears?

like said above, as long as your rev's are in the right range, b4 you slide it in gear there shouldn't be anytrouble..... too soon and you'll wear your syncros

Floating Gears?

You mean to tell me there are people who don't do this???

I went a week and a half with my clutch linkage gone before I could get replacement parts one time. Probably took some life out of the starter starting in gear all the time but not much. If you've ever had to move a manual that won't run you know how well the starter in 1st can do. Hell I've cranked one about 200 feet to get out of an intersection and into a parking lot that died once
