ive got a 95 f150 5.0 aode tranny and 4x4. it still has an ungodly miss when going up hills or you put it under any kind of load. ive replaced the plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fuel filter, and 02 sensor. i also pulled the IAC and MAF sensor and cleaned those out real good. it acts like its not getting eenough gas. were thinking maybe the fuel injectors are gummed up? the truck has sat most of its life and not drove much. going up a hill you have to shove ur foot to the floor and then it literally jumps and downshifts and takes off but still does not got very fast. liek i said were thinkign its fuel related. their a little bit of a gas smell from the exhaust making us think that maybe not all the gas is burning. if your going down a hill and give it gas it takes right off and doesnt miss at all. anymore ideas? fuel pressure regulator? fuel pump? injectors?
what are all the main components of the fuel system?
What is the condition of the smog(air injection) system? My '89 developd the same problem and it turned out the metal tube across the back of the motor had rusted out and that made the engine run extremely lean.
the ccheck engine light is coming on and going off but is never on cconstantly. ive taken it to advance and autozone and they both told me the light has to be on all the time and even if it is im out of luck because they can only read 96 and newer. i also called the dealer and they told me the same thing.
im not sure what you mean by the smog system? the MAF sensor looks brand new on the inside and i cleaned it out real well. same with the IAC. i havent pulled pff the airbox tubes to clean the throttle body yet. thats next on the list.
whats this metal tube your referring to?ill have to check it out.

Wow.. the shops are useless where you live aren't they. But that's no problem you can get the codes yourself, go to www.fordfuelinjection.com and follow the procedure to do a self test or buy an Equus 3145 code reader.

The smog system is all that stuff attached to the air pump, there is a rubber line that runs around the back of the motor that attaches to a metal line between the heads, it's really hard to see from above so have a look at the picture below so you know what to look for, you may have better luck seeing it from below.
