I just did the rear brakes on my truck and wonder if I shouldn't have hooked up the self adjusters. I Usually don't, I just adjust them regularly my self. But I am getting a little older and crawling around under there gets to me anymore lol. I plan to plow snow this winter and I know that the adjuster works when you back up. Will all the reverseing this winter over do it?
I removed the little cables off my rear brakes, the ratchet wheels and the pawls and springs that keep them locked are still in place but I now have to manually adjust them - which I do fairly regularly, as I pull the drums every time I pull a rear wheel - keeps the drums from getting rusty ridges at the edges and everything is adjusted nice and tight all the time. My adjusters never worked right anyways, one kept tightening up while the other one kept loosening up, even tho they were both set up like they should...
LCAM, I have always done the "DIY" method as well. But as I said with no lift and getting older (every bone I have broke and muscle I have tore or strained) lets me know I was crawling around on the ground lol. I am already feeling this brake job. Thanks Dave, that was one of my worries. I will just have to be a little more cuatios this winter lol.
My hands are the worst for me. I have broken every finger and a cuople other bones in both of them over the years. Mostly in fights before learning how to punch properly (love my kenpo) lol. The ncomes the busted up ankle and knee. I really need to get a garage with a lift lol.

yes have the garage but a lift and another $25,000 worth of tools and i'd be set. doctor has ok'ed me to lift again so got the old 300lbs air tank / rear bumper in the bed today so can weld new mounts. this may not be much for some of you guys, but i only weigh 125lbs on a good day.
You guys that weld, are those wire welders at HF that sell for 125$ or so worth having? I thought about getting one but I will have to teach myself. BTW buck just jokin..
I know I was whineing lol. On the welders, if you are gonna buy a 110v wire welder I would go with one of the lincolns. I bought a lincoln 125 a few years back for small stuff. It came with the gas hook up so you can go up to about 3/16" stuff safe (I think it says 1/4" but not me).
That sounds greek to me,,maybe ill scratch that idear,I know a guy that has 3 or 4 different ones illl just hire him!! Very possible I would catch somthing on fire!
