Just had a brake job on the rear drums and the parking brake doesn't work? The guy said the cable is too long?
I don't get it--- "Brake Masters" are not. Got to do the work your self. Anyways any of you heard about a problem like this. I read that the parking brake is in the hub?
93 F250 7.3 IDI 4x4 any response is appreciated
I bet its just out of adjustment, as you have to move the adjuster bolt to compensate for the new shoes.....as long as the adjustment bolt is working, all you would have to do is drive down a ways in reverse, and make a couple complete stops from around 15mph. If it doesn't work that way, take out the small plug on the bottom and poke a screwdriver in there and turn the adjuster bolt yourself....it will only turn one way because there is a locking pin on the top. All you need to do is adjust the bolt until the shoes are just barely clearing the drums, and test your park brake. Should be golden then
Nick, he has a '93 - no manual adjuster at the equalizer bar on those, instead they have the self-adjusting pawl mechanism built into the pedal assembly, the same kind that is know for letting loos eventually and that has a recall on it that makes the dealership mechanics lock the pawl in place by inserting a little wedge-thing in the mechanism. So, can you guess what I think happened to his truck that the e-brake don't work no more?
Oh, you didn't get it, sorry about that - I think the self-adjusting mechanism of your e-brake pedal assembly has let go, which does unwind the front cable some and causes slack in the whole linkage - probably that's why the mechanic thinks the cables are too long, because at the moment the front cable is indeed longer than it needs to be for proper operation of the system. Unfortunately I never messed with the parking pedal assembly of one of these trucks so I can't tell you how to fix it, a dealership should know tho since they are the ones who got to fix millions of trucks when that recall was issued, so maybe try there?
