What do guys make of this no AXLE code, I suspect based on hitch and brake controller it was a special order with 4:10's or better. Call it wishfull thinking, but sure would like to know before I pull it.
could'nt actually get under the truck. 1 did'nt bring a jack, 2 rattlesnake made a home right under the pumpkin. its two wheel drive so no FR axle.
Sorry Dan, LOL, the pictures didn't show on my screen in the first post. I see the situation now. Gotta read the axle tag to know for sure unless you can turn the wheel and see the driveshaft. I'm gonna bet it's the 3.73 like 99% of the 7.3 SRW
You could always share with us what rpm's you're turning at say 60 or 70 mph and we could guess based on what we turn. If all the tags are gone, you can always move the truck away from the snakes, jack up the rear end and mark the bottom of the tire and bottom of the drive shaft. Then with the truck in neutral, count the revolutions since the rear end is just a ration. Over 4 turns per spin means a 4.10. Under means a 3.73.
I'm guessing you have a 3.73 like most other SRW trucks.
Yeah Chris, I am just hoping for 4:10 I just bought a 14K lbs fifth and would love to upgrade my 3:73 axle gears but I am lucky just to get access to this particular truck, i.e. someone in the family pulled some strings. If it has 4:10's I am welcome to take the axle, only I limeted to moving the PU.

I had the chance to order mine with 4.10 but made the wrong choice back in 2001. My truck has gotten by OK with the 3.73's but 4.10's would have been better with my 315 tires.
That is a BIG fiver you gotz there my friend. Best of luck. I hope you score.

Yeah I can get by fine too, but like you say would be nice. I am wondering if this truck was ordered w 4:10's and thats the reason for the axle code being left off. He had everything else set up for towing heavy. Yeah, sometimes I don't know what I'd do if I did'nt have family I can count on. With any luck maybee tommorow my cousin will be available to get me in and I can be prepared w/ something for the snake and the a 3 ton jack, slide under and have look at the axle tag. Although never could figure out how to read those dang axle tags.
