getting headers with 3" collectors and running 3" pipe not cats into some flow master 10's (1 chambers) out the side infront of the passengers side rear wheel

my truck is daily driven... i dont tow... and for the low end loss im going to throw 4.10s in there and i think my tires are going to be something like 28-29 inches tall....

oh yea and thanks john410312 for the pic lol

Long tube headers will give you more low end TQ , 3in on a single is good 2 1/2 is good on a duel , with out cats it will be loud....Lew

lol how bad would 3 be? with duals that is... every thing i see talks about the scavenging effect... but i dont see it losing that much...

and as far as weight i dont see it causing any problem lol still bound to weigh less than the manifolds cats and muffler not to mention losing the extra tail pipe

Hot gasses travel faster than cooler gases , ( scavenging effect ) with smaller pipes the gases are hotter , something like 1 1/2 - 1 5/8 primary tube heades with 3 in collectors ito 2 1/2 in pipe , then you can step up to 3in at the muffler & tail pipes , this set up is good for a hiperformance motor , will still keep low end & rev to over 6000 rpm , for more rpm 1 3/4 tube headers & 3in exhaust would work better on a hi RPM motor , on a nearly stock truck 1 1/2 tube headers & 2 1/4 pipe will work fine ...JMO....Lew

Dual 3" is too big.

2 1/4" for 302 and 2.5" for 351.

Just make sure you use mandrel bent pipe or it will be a waste , custom made exhaust is the best way to go ...

has nothing to do with "us" im not using 2.25" pipe

and the point of this thread is getting ideas.... and u was the only one that suggested 2.25

im not going to have the 302 in it for much longer and i dont tow

and i am getting 4.10 gears

so the point was would 3" put all the torque so far up in the power band that the 4.10s wouldnt be able to help it from idle-2000 rpms

so yea... no arguing in my thread please lol

but feel free to post ur exhaust clips and general experience

Well im just telling you 3" true duals is too big for a stock 302.

MagnaFlow Performance Exhaust - FAQ, Frequently Asked Questions

But maybe the flowmasters will compensate for the too big of exhaust pipe.

Nah, they won't, nothing will - the idea behind keeping the pipes smaller is to keep the velocity of the exhaust gases higher which aids in the scavenging effect, large pipes are good only if you have the flowrate to match them which ain't gonna happen with a 302 unless it revvs to the moon - a 429 or a 460 on the other hand, that could be very happy with 3" duals, so if the plans are in motion for one of those down the road then by all means go for the big pipes now. FWIW 2-1/2" duals is what I rab on my old 350 SBC and it worked good, but then again I only got her up to 5k rpm and only on rare occasions since she never lacked power down low either...
