alright, after too much time and too much money spent the vibration is still present, all 6 tires are fine, rims are fine, truck is aligned, new pitman arm tie rod end, all 6 tires balanced and alignment done at ford, drive shaft U joint new, all tires are at the same psi, where else to look? is there something on the steering wheel itself I can look at? the ujoint on the steering wheel inside the cab seems fine but is there anything else?? I have about an inch slack in the wheel, and the vibrations can be somewhat felt at all low speeds, speed most noticable at 50mph but goes away once 55-60mph is reached
for the hundredth time I lifted the front end and tried to find play in the wheels one of the tie rods is clunking, I cannot isolate it, hopefully will find it with help of someone else moving the wheel while I look
is it a fast vibration or kind of a slower vibration?
have you had the transmission off/seperated from the flexplate for anyreason? my buddy had a tempo that vibrated after he swapped out the engine. turns out that the bolts in the flexplate to the TC were not the same weight and caused it to vibrate.
yeah I've about pulled all my hair out on this, Hopefully will be whatever the hell rod end is making noise up front, either way just another 70$ that will be thrown in the toilet as I think its the inner tie rod
Leave the truck on the ground and just unlock the steering wheel. You need to get a helper to move the steering wheel back and forth while you check each part for play/movement in the joint it's self.
Have you checked the front spring hangers and upper bolts?
Have you checked the ball joints with the front end in the air and using a long bar under the center of the tire, pull up on the bar. Check for up/down movement.
thanks for your posts guys, ball joints I have only checked using the 12 oclock and 6 oclock tugging method with the wheels in he air I will haveto try the pry bar method, my shocks are original from facotry but my ride isnt super bouncy although some times when I hit a bump going on the thruway I will be launched out of the seat and hit my head on the roof lol, I don't exactly know what the spring hangars and upper bolts are
alright guys, please respond I found the slack in the wheel nothing is wrong at all with my front end its actually tight, its in the damn steering gear box.. no play in any joints in front, grabbed the steering shaft under the hood and the play is there, no play in the u joint under the dash its in the steering shaft or gear box, please respond as I don't know what in the hell to do now only know that new steering boxes are expensive and hopefully I don't need one
EDIT: i think the gearbox is fine, found that the inner tie rod that connects to the draglink on the passenger side is clunking and seems to have lots of loose movement when I put my hand on, I keep getting myself all worked up and dont even pay ttention I checed this and forgot about the clunking a day ago, must be going senile at 17
