Fluid choices.
I am attempting to start a maintenance log for my truck and want to use good products. After searching the site I am still wondering about a couple of things.
This is my first Diesel -
What is a good choice of oil weight for year round driving? 15W40?
I have the 3 speed auto (C6) and wonder if I need anything other that standard trans fluid.
Coolant? Fleetcharge or Green with SCA additive? I'm not sure of what I need.
Any thoughts?
It's an 88 F250 7.3
Thanks Dan
Transmission: I believe that can be Motorcraft Mercon 5 i could be wrong im sure someone will correct me if im wrong (mine is a ZF5 manual)
Antifreeze/Coolant: if you live anywhere within range of a John Deere dealer go get there Cool-Gard antifreeze...... its good stuff i use it my buddies use it in there diesels i highly recommend it Coolants : Cool-Gard II
I am not a fan of Synthetics in motors, just gear boxes.
The supposed savings with Synthetics are the long intervals between changes and I very much disagree with long interval oil changes. Frequent oil changes are better, Synthetics are to expensive to dump frequently, use a good dino!
