starting truck

after i have started my truck and its gotten warmed up ill go to start it again and it will be a hard start like the battery is dying eventually once i give it gas it will start also when i shut it off the truck with still rumble a bit for a few seconds please help

There are a couple potential issues with the hard starting. Could be the battery is going bad, have it load tested. Could be the alternator isn't sufficiently charging th system, have it load tested. Could be the starter is in fact going bad. If you have headers, the starter could be getting heat soaked.

As for the rumbling, this is probably what most refer to as dieseling, which typically occurs due to a timing issue. So I'd get a timing light on there and see where you're at.

The dieseling (run-on after shut-off) can be caused by timing, but in most cases it's caused by high curb idle, a vacuum leak, or increased combustion chamber temperature due to a lean mixture (which a lot of the time is because the EGR system has been removed or no longer works). I'd take a look at your plugs and see if they are white.

improper timing can also cause a hard start. especially too much advance i believe.
