4 X 4 floor shifter

98 4.2 V6. 4 X 4 floor shifter is hard to shift. Have to use 2 hand sometimes to shift. Could it be all gumed up or requires further more in depth repair.

I can suggest if you have two worn tires and two newer tires on your vehicle, put the tires with the most tread on the front. It should help the shift. I had an 82 GMC 4x4 that I'd installed only two new tires to the rear and it caused all sorts of 4x4 engagement and release problems until I put the new tires on the front. Taller tires should be on the front. Best to keep 4x4's tire height the same all around.
