My 97 F150 4.6 with 4r70w transmission has developed an occasional lope or rough idle. No check engine light. Plugs/wires are relatively new, within 20k, and transmission fluid changed within last 15k. The interesting part of this is that the tranmission appears to be hunting the OD when ever the stuble occurs while driving. When I give it WOT, it downshifts, and begins to spool up and I hear what I can only describe as a possible vacumn leak at the back of the engine, pax side, near where the top of transmission would be. Turn off the OD and you can still feel a little hunt, just not as noticable.
With the truck in park, no noticable stumble, and cannot hear any vac. leak. Truck has 260k and is mostly original. Is it time for engine/tran rebuild, or are there any vac. lines to the tranmission in this area? This has all started within the last week.
Anyone have a similar problem, or seen this before?
Additional Info- The transmission hunt is most pronounced at the shift points with light pedal.
