I changed out my old 302 that had a cracked block for a 302 i just bought recently....Just got er all finished up swapping today and went to fire er up ran fine for about 3-4 min and then started knocking and oil light came on??? Idk if i have no oil pressure or what. The motor did fall off the engine hoist but landed in hay so it had a soft landing could that have anything to do with it? The motor ran just fine in the truck i pulled it out of before....
sounds like crap luck...I've dropped an engine on the driveway before from 3-4 foot up when the engine hoist tipped over and it was just fine...
try pulling the valve covers and priming the oil pump with the tool through the dist hole and see if the pump primes....if it doesn't, yank the pan and see what's going on. FYI, whenever I swap out an engine, I always change out the pump...$20 insurance.....check your bearings too when you have the pan off...it may not hurt to throw some new bearings onto the bottom end.
....just making sure. Sometimes stupid stuff like that is overlooked, I've seen a guy do it before.
I would do as v8only said then, run pump with a drill and see what happens. Might wanna do away with the idiot light for now and hook up a mechanical guage.
I pulled the oil pan off and found the clips or what ever they are off the lifters...
Do you mean the rockers? If so you will want to keep digging, next I would make sure they were adjust properly to begin with, and then check to see if you got bent push rods, and go from there.
PS:
Sorry, but I see you said you pulled the oil pan, and found the "clips" are off of the lifters, I do not follow. Do you mean the oil pan, or the valve cover?
