reverse
I bought my 94.5 powerstroke couple months ago and just wondering what you guys think.. The reverse will grind if you dont catch it in the right place.. The guy that had it before me said its been that way for 4 years since hes had it.. He has thought maybe the old man that he bought it off of had chipped a tooth, It has not gotten any worse ,, Usually if you just move up few inches you can keep it from grinding going in.. Or backwards.. It grinds about 30 percent of the time, i guess i just catch it in the bad area... What do you think that is and what does it take to fix it,,, put a new gear in the transmission??

mines the same exact way but mine is the syncro, the gear miraculously isn't junk yet but i found it best if you pump the pedal 3 times then put it in gear it doesnt grind most of the time. it deffinetly helps. but i talked to a guy at a tranny shop and he said that just the syncro alone is 300$ soo.... ill find another zf5 to pick up before i do that lol

I have a friend that owns a repair shop nearby, and when I was looking for parts for my ZF he found a complete rebuild kit with bearings and syncros for less than $300. As far as your problem goes, I would say that whatever you do, it will probably require removal and teardown of the tranny. unless it is a terrible problem I would just live with it. just my .02

There's no way it's $300 for 1 synchro. I've seen rebuild kits with seals, bearings, and all the synchros for like $330 look em up on ebay.
Mine also grinds going into reverse sometimes. It's not big enough of a deal for me to really worry about but that's just me. Some of my other gears grind too but if I shift slow they don't grind most of the time.
