Trany help
I am having 2 problems with my tranny. I have a 1999 ranger 3.0 v6 with E-OD trans and 4wd. It has 49k miles and is out of warranty (stupid me for not buying one.
The first problem is driving down the road the O/D off light starts flashing. This only happens intermitently. If I shut the engine off and restart it, it goes away, only to return a short time later under the same circumstances.
Problem 2, about 60% of the time when 2nd gear engages there is a moderate to sometimes harsh jolt as 2nd gear is engaged. The other 40% of the time it shifts normally. When I encounter the problem it will only shift when I release the gas pedal a little. Other wise it will not shift and tap the rev limiter.
I have changed the transmission fluid and installed a new filter. This has helped slightly decrease the number of 2nd gear engagement problems but has not helped any with the O/D off light.
I would appreciate any help with this. Thank you in advance for any help or suggestions.

The OD light is indicating an electrical/computer problem, the most common cause is the VSS. If you get the codes pulled you can find out what the possible causes are, I don't think you have a serious tranny problem.
