Intermittant problem starting. What to check?

Intermittant problem starting. What to check?
I'm my 97 Explorer V8, once per month or less, it won't start easily. The engine turns over fine but it misses and won't fire enough to get started. Once it starts, it runs and idles fine.
It has only done this two or three times and the weather was cold each time. Each time after cranking it for a minute or two it starts up and runs smoothly. If I turn it back off, it starts fine the next time.
I have added dry-gas each time that it happened since I though it could be moisture but I'm not convinced since it has recurred.
What should I start checking? Also, if this turns out to be something I can't identify, will the dealer be able to check the computer and see what the trouble was even though it has been started and driven since the issue?
