another 4.6 question
well i went off and bought me a 98 f150 2wd with the 4.6 auto and i have a few questions first off what are the differences in the years of the 4.6 like from the early 90's through the late 90's up through the 2000's and far as internals and horsepower rating? i have heard that the 2001 and newer 4.6's have better heads than the 2000 and lower...will the newer heads intergange with my old ones? and whats the best gear ratio to run with this set up? it currently has 3.55's and i want a little more zip so i was thinking 3.73's or 4.10's...what do you think? an last off what kindof tranny is in this truck?....is it fairly durable for towing something like a travel trailer?....sorry to have so many questions but im new to these trucks and know nothing..lol

the early 4.6's have heads that the intake ports kinda wander around to the valve { npi heads } the 96 up npi heads have a dain near straight shot at the intake valve . there are romeo pi heads out here too and are available from ford and are even better some say . just look up ford modular v8 and you should come up with lots of tech and parts sites to answer all your questions . also the early motors had weaker bottom ends ...... hasnt stopped me from abusing one !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

could just wander over and find a site called tccoa , it's a site of mn12 owners , aka 90 up bird , cougar , mark 8 owners and there is a plethora of info available about the mods there ............ that's where i have been picking up a lot of what i'm learning !!!!!!!!!!!!
