There has been some discussion on here about grades and using the decel tune from DP and how effective it is or is not. I get to feeling a little inadequate when those of you who live out west start talking about mountain passes but we do have actual mountains here on the east coast. I went from sea level to 2969 feet on Backbone mountain yesterday. I realize it's not 5,000 like in Colorado, but you don't start at sea level out there either.
Yesterday I was out in far far western Maryland, a place called Oakland, it's about 5 miles from the West Virginia Border and I was hauling a 2 axle dump trailer with a Lesco 36inch walk behind mower and a few other smaller mowers. I was doing some lawns and debris pick-up for a friend that does that type of stuff on foreclosed properties. I figure I had over 5k pounds loaded in the trailer and there were several 6% grades and one 9%'er for 2 miles. Going down it with OD off and the decel tune engaged, I maintained 47mph down the grade. I have a BTS VB and Jody tunes it to lock the TC so the engine helps braking and that combined with the EBPV being closed saved the brakes a bunch.
Here is a sign showing the 9%, it may be hard to read in the picture.
Here is a sign for the big trucks which their speed limit was only 10 mph. You guys that live in the mountains are used to this and the emergency pull off areas for run away trucks, but us sea level dwellers eyes bulge out when we see it.

Here is a picture of the dump trailer, but know it has a 48inch cage built all the way around it to help hold more debris. We had it over half full with debris then the mowers and heavy ramps.

Awesome Jason!! It's a great feeling to hear from our customers what Jody has created is working as it was designed.
Thank you for taking the time to evaluate it.

Great review Jason. I pulled a 26' loaded enclosed cargo trailer this week end with similar results. I havn't had a chance to use it with my 5er yet but now feel confident it will work fine.
The decel is a big help. It's nice when your engine can do the work instead of riding the brakes and hoping they dont give out before you get to the bottom.
BTW....Here in Colorado we start at 5280 ft in Denver, and alot of the roads get up to 11,000+. Some even more depending on which pass you are on.
Just went over a 10,000' pass this weekend. No matter how high you are, you still need to be on your toes when driving in the mountains. Thanks for sharing with us!
i have the decel tune but sadly it wont work when the a/c is on. when it is off it works fine. i talked to jody and he states there is some times the flapper needs to be cleaned in the turbo which i havent had the time to test out. but i still love my chip set-up. just kinda boggels your mind from time to time

What? BS. I say it works or it does not. If you need to turn off the AC it is pretty much useless.

Hmmm. Not sure what's up with that but I can assure you that the decel and ac will work at the same time. Last time I used it I had the ac on max the whole time and everything worked great.. The butterfly would have to be the EBPV and if it is sticking, then it will surely not work and may lead to other problems should it stick partially closed when you don't need it. Not sure what the ac would have to do with it, but I am sure Jody knows.
i talked to jody and he states there is a issue with problems with the butterfly sticking and needing to be cleaned. no big deal.
ten01 if u know so much why dont u come to pa and take a ride, i dont talk crap about someone that has helped me many times with my chip. i just dont understand!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jason I could use that trailer...My Mom and Dad have a bunch of stuff that need to go to the landfill, to bad you dont live closer...Out here in AZ we got 10% grades!!! it sure puts things into perspective when you watch another big truck run off in to one of those runaway truck ramps. It wasnt a pretty sight.
