Please Help Decode My VIN

New member here. Just inherited my grandfather's old Ford truck that I would like to restore to as much as original as possible (down to paint color, etc...). Would appreciate if someone here more knowledgeable could help me get information on my truck. Not even really sure what year it is myself (think it's a 62). Here's the information I pulled of the panel on the driver's door.

Color: A

Body: 81A
Trans: A
Axle: 12
Max GVW Lbs: 4000

J = 223 I6 engine
N = Norfork (built in)
340732 = consecutive unit number, built in October of 62... although it's a 63.
W.B. 114 = short bed
Body 81A = standard cab truck
Color A = Raven Black
Trans A = 3 speed ford standard
Axle 12 = 3.89 rear gears
DSO 21 = Atlanta, Where the truck was orderd from.

114 decodes to the 114" wheelbase only. It does not decode to a short bed (pickup) or anything else.

Since these trucks were also available as a Cab & Chassis, Cowl & Windshield, Chassis and Cowl, or with a Platform (Flat Bed), Platform & Rack (Stake Bed), you cannot assume it's a pickup.

F101 on the Model Code decodes to 4200# GVW...pg 47 of the General Info section of the Master Parts Catalog...

Thanks Bill, ND, and CS. I appreciate the input. Any idea what color Raven Black equates to on the color pallette today? I'm sure I'll have lots of questions as I work through this project. Glad I found the FTE forums.

Since the OP posted a GVW of 4,000 lbs. that he took from the Warranty Plate, how can the Model code decode to 4200 lbs?

It cannot. Either the OP posted the wrong GVW, or the parts catalog is wrong.
