And worth nearly every dollar. So much more car than the 2007 Infiniti G35 I traded in for it, and considering what the G35 cost me 3 years ago, not a whole lot of price difference. Plus I can find a Ford dealer anywhere should I need to get it worked on under warranty.

Well Ford should fire the entire marketing devision every 5 years then. Did Ford listen to people in the 70's that wanted smaller fuel efficent cars? No. Did they make crap for 2 decades? Yes. Did people want crap? No. The market has already spoken on the Explorer, the problem is Ford is too dumb to understand what they are saying. When sales go down they come to the conclusion that people want a lesser vehicle. What people want in the explorer is a 4x4 that is reliable and not a gas hog. If Ford had a clue they would have built a small diesel for the Explorer and left it a truck platform. For some reason Ford refuses to take the lead in anything automotive.

People that buy toys (motorcycles, snowmobiles, small boats ...) buy explorers. U-haul won't even rent you a trailer if you drive up in an explorer (thanks firestone!!!). As far as 300K miles ... pretty much no vehicle is expected to survive nearly 20 years through Michigan winters with our salt covered roads - not sure where you live. The new explorer doesn't match my lifestyle - my F150 and Focus are the best of both worlds - but it will certainly match more people's than the outgoing model has in the last 3 years. If it doesn't match your lifestyle, then quit whining and buy a truck.

A diesel in the Explorer? How much more are you willing to pay for this thing? The American diesel market isn't robust enough for that to happen right now.

For those of you who bought an Explorer to be a stump puller, I have one question for ya. How'd that work out?

Say what you want about the new Explorer, but very few people here bought the old ones, based on this highly unscientific survey:

You're correct that using a forum is highly unscientific.

Ford sold 180,000 explorers in 2006, 137,000 in '07. 08 and 09 sales dropped to 78,000 and 52,000 sales respectfully. That is still a longshot from "very few".

What I meant was very few people here on FTE bought NEW. And the point is all these posts about what Ford should build are mostly from people who did not and would not buy one new. That conclusion certainly is a stretch based on the poll etc, but what other conclusion can you draw? Show me the posts that contain "I bought a new one...".

I think that the new Explorer is good for those who like the edge, but feel it is too small. My wife and I looked at the edges, and felt that it was too small, and way to small for a car seat if we were to further our familial expansion...(Is that even a real word..."Familial").
