I have a new Excursion buddy who asked me to do some maintenance on his truck. Kinda wanted to get an idea of what y'all think a fair price would be to charge.
Here's what I'll be doing:
1. Change oil/filter
2. Change transmission fluid
3. Replace front rotors and pads and break in properly
4. Replace all 10 plugs and boots
5. Change fuel filter
6. Rebuild auto hubs
7. Lube slip yoke
Give me a ball park what you would charge for each one or as a total bill. He's got all the parts. Thanks!

i'll give you a tough estimate of what i've charged here lately.
1. Change oil/filter - $40 oil/filter included (NAPA gold filter /MC or Castrol oil)
3. Replace front rotors and pads and break in properly - $30 + parts
4. Replace all 10 plugs and boots - $125 (parts included)
5. Change fuel filter - $15+ parts
6. Rebuild auto hubs - **edit**$20 + parts ( last ones i've worked on were just replaced with WARNs)
7. Lube slip yoke - not sure, never been asked to do that?
while i was on the unemployment line i had a hand full of misc jobs lined up as well as atv related stuff, and i worked on a few V10ers as well as actuator for the locks.
just some ball park numbers for ya. the plug change was the big one, i probably did 15 here in the last 3 months once word got out!
I'd charge $200 if somebody came to me. If he was a buddy, I'd charge a little less. All of that would take me about 5-7 hours. That's a pretty cheap hourly rate when compared to shops that charge $100+/hr.
The tranny fluid will be ALL the fluid per Mark K.'s tutorial.
==================
Thanks for the replies. Hopefully some more folks will chime in as well so that I can get a good range. I'm thinking about $25-$30 hour but would rather just give them a straight price.
If a buddy is the same thing as a friend, I would not charge him anything as long as he was willing to help.
FALSE......
a friend is one that you can call for some help and will never ask for a favor in return, even though you will probably offer help to him in the future!!
a "BUDDY" is one who only calls when he needs something, need you to DO something for him, or needs money, and never calls or talks to you again till he needs something...... then when you need something he's always busy!!
a fiend, i would help him out as long as he had the majority of the parts, and he'd throw in a drink of choice...... a "buddy"... well it's cash up front....
Well that being the case:
If you worked on a buddy's truck and something went wrong he may very well sue.
Don't think I would even work on his truck for any price.
This is a business transaction. I've just met the fella and have actually never met him in person. And I'm not too worried about my work failing. He approached me about doing the work for him. I'm just trying to get an idea on a fair, reasonable price...that's all.
Well to do that work as listed and him buy all the parts and supplies I would charge 325.00 dollars.
That would be a good deal for him and a days work for you.
It would cost him about that much to get the plugs installed at the dealership.
I didn't play around and it took me 3 hours and 45 minutes to change the plugs and inspect the boots on my V-10. It would be hard to just change the plugs in less than 3 hours. Oil filter, oil change and transmission fluid is a breeze but one must dispose of the oil.
Slip yoke is not that bad, just takes the right tools and some muscle, same with the brakes. Never done the hubs but should not be that bad.
Think about things that can go wrong beyond your control (spark plug threads strip, hub bolts snap, etc.) and what you will do about those. Charge $x/hr plus materials, eat the cost? Whatever it is, agree ahead of time.
Also depends on your equipment. Can you work on the brakes while the oil & ATF drain?
I can't, no lift
