a friend just got back from iraq and is trying to get his truck gremlins exercised, so i told him i would pick some brains here.
its an 87 f-150 4.9 6 cyl efi 4 spd, the truck had been sitting for around 3 yrs, so he removed the front tank (the only one he uses) and replaced the whole fuel pump module, with pickup and sending unit, then replaced the filter and cleaned the tank, the truck would start and run fine for about 5 min. then shut down and wouldnt restart for about 15 min. then the same thing again. i had suspected the frame rail mounted pressure pump was worn and getting hot then shutting off, when i suggested the possibility he went to the parts store and replaced it... now it wont start at all! he has confirmed the pump is working and pumping fuel... any ideas???
I first guess the ICM is bad.
If not that then the PIP sensor.
Can he get the codes when it stops running?
Does the fuel pumps keep running after the engine dies?
