Hey all, took apart the condenser box to clean out the rat turds and pecan shells, replace the drier, orifice tube, etc. and was wondering what sort of sealant Ford used between the two halves of the condenser housing. It feels sort of tar like - i.e doesn't set up like silicone. Is there a generic aftermarket equivalent that will work?
Look for a 3M product called Strip Caulk. NAPA, Federated and Car Quest stores carry it in my area. Any store that specializes in automotive paint products will have it.
In the old days it was called dum-dum. I don't know what it's original form was, but every mechanic in the US usually had a huge blob of it on hand. It could be rolled, shaped, molded, and pressed for any imaginable sealing use.
