52 flathead V8 and ethanol

just got me a 52 Ford with a flathead V8. Over heard someone talking about the ethanol and how it could be bad for the older engines.

Being new at this I want to take good care of my truck and I do want to run it. Should I avoid the ethanol gases as much as possible or not worry about it and enjoy the truck. I think it will be a weekend/cruise in going to Church truck.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I did try to do a search on ethanol but really did not find the answer to my question so I thought I would post it here.

Also, just had the horn button wire break off and is down in the steering column. Any suggestions how to get it back up the column or how to get a new wire in

Again thanks for your suggestions/help

10% ethanol will not harm your engine. It will however eat up the older rubber parts of your fuel system. Most likely (if not replaced with alcohol resistant parts) your fuel pump diaphragm, power valve in the carb., and other misc. carb parts and fuel lines. It may take a while. If the parts have been replaced with newer alcohol resistant parts then enjoy your Flathead.

Thanks Larry.

looks like I will be replacing some parts as time goes along.

I plan to enjoy the 52 Pickup. It is very similar to my Father's first pickup so it brings back some great memories in his truck.

Again Thanks

To fix your horn wire...follow the wire as it comes out the bottom of the steering box and there should be a butt connector (if still stock wiring) that will allow you to disconnect the wire, pull real hard on the wire all the while holding the butt connector with the other hand. Once loose pull the wire out of the steering shaft. Can buy a replacement from Dennis Carpenter and others then feed down the steering shaft from inside the cab and connect to butt connector.
