alright have a 96' f150 5.0l 5sp 4x4 reg cab truck. lifted 4" with 33.12.50's gon lift it mor and have a set of f550 spring for rear. what i am looking for is some performance parts for engine. some good front end lift components, dress up parts for the underneath as well as the engine, and custom parts like driveshaft, towing mirrors, ect. i need to know where to look, who to contact or just any ideas
I personally like the idea of putting power under the hood before adding on bling...
Start with exhaust... 1.7 roller rockers... intake... camshaft... stuff to get the engine breathing better. That said... cold air kits = Garbage. If you're feeling brave... home head porting and a gasket match to intake. If you wanna spend... Trick Flow or AFR cylinder heads.
Look around on the galleries on this site or Cardomain... there are no shortage of people who want to show off their ride. There are a lot of directions to take when fixing up your truck... I like the less is more approach and I am not a fan of chrome stick-on ANYTHING.
Check LMC truck, Bronco Graveyard or Summit Racing for starts.
Tell us what you want so we can be more specific...
less is alwasy better, agreed. and i am just wanting some more power from the engine. it runs great just kinda slow at gettin up to speed. and i am not into the chrome stick on. i was looking for parts. its just a project truck not a daily driver. but is already nice jsut wanna make it better
What gears do you have ?? with 33s you should have atleast 4.56 , if not thats a good place to start & like above the exhaust would be the next thing . Then so on...Lew
i do not know the actual gears. they are stock though. how would 4.56's help? i'm not so strong on gears and drivetrain in general. uhm as far as budget i havent really set one and this isnt something i wanna complete in a few months but probably overall no more than 4-5 thousand over the next couple years. i already have have 4 invested. 2 for the truck and two for lift and some odd and end things
With doing all the work yourself... you can build a pretty stout engine within your budget...
- Long tube headers/exhaust ~$600 (any emissions testing in your area?)
- Decent camshaft ~$300
- Cylinder heads $1500-$2000 depending what you want
- Intake ~$400-$600
This doesn't include costs of gaskets or other minor parts... but should give you an idea on what it costs to build a performance mill. There are good deals out there if you look for them.
as far as cam shaft goes. like is there any thing as far as lift and duration you would recomend or prefer? Long tube headers is a definate. and i do not have any emissions where i am at. Now a question is as far as stronger differentials and different gears. would i have to get the whole differential itself or do i just replace the ring and pinion gears front and rear and get like a dana assembly for the front and rear?
Gears are crutial to performance with larger tires, only the ring and pinion need be replaced in the rear and the front also needs a different carrier once you go above 3.73 but they're not expensive. This should be your next upgrade, it will make the truck feel like it got a 50-75hp boost.
