Are you talking about the EBPV? If so I gutted the valve but left the actuator in tact. IMO the EBPV is totally unhelpful and is an exhaust restriction. I have heard of people using it as an exhaust brake and althougth I do not have any concrete evidence I would not recomend it. I believe it causes premature oil leaks and sometimes even leads to a cracked bearing housing. just my .02

Some people have completely cut off the EBPV actuator and welded up the pedastal. this is the best way and makes for easy removal of the turbo. and any downsides? None, unless you live in the arctic. where it helps with faster engine warm-up.
I hope that I answered your question.

It's useless, Even as an exhaust brake IMO.

I cut the cylinder off and welded the pedestal.
Need to post it on my website still.

its a 1/2 inch rod with a 1/8th inch butterfly on it. HUGE exhaust restriction.
Will make 50 degree difference in your EGT's also.

I'll have some posted soon. Feel free to ask me any questions about doing this though.
