Dreaded Coolant Smell

Dreaded Coolant Smell
Even when my truck was new I would get a whiff of coolant when towing up hills. Never any leaks around the degas. When at the dealers for maintenance I've had them note the coolant several times while under warranty and they were unable to reproduce the smell. Now at 91k while driving to Yuma, Az unloaded through the hills it constantly smelled of coolant. When I went back to Cali it dd it again. Now the degas bottle has residue. Coolant level is no lower than usual. Read varios threads on problem. Is it EGR cooler or head studs?

Sorry about that. I assumed you could read minds. Anyway, the guages all read normal no over heating or anything. Just that sweet nauseating smell. Not over powering just enough to let you know it's there. Now I find myself sniffing at the vents to see if it's me or not.
OCD I know.

my new rad cap, installed 2-3 days ago, is from Ford and the part # is RS*527* Is this the updated cap? Puked the day after, and I get the same thing...I can smell the coolant, but I can also obviously see it's puked from the degas bottle ( i keep calling it the coolant resevoir).
So is there also an updated or after-market thermostat that a guy should consider?

My O4 was doing some puking and blowing a bit out the degas last year. Turned out to be the oil cooler plugged with casting sand and what little fluid was getting to the egr would flash to steam and burp. Also caused the engine fine to inguage constantly when pulling any kind of load. Replaced the oil cooler and no more problems. Also freeze plugged the egr.
