Your pellet gun will work just fine.

A Low Yield Tactical Nuclear device might work, too. (And it sure would eliminate any telltale odor, too!)

Does your city/town have animal control officers? Skunks are known to carry rabies, and are considered nuisance animals by many localities. They may have traps to catch them and know how to move them without the spraying.

x2. Wire cage traps.

I'm not sure how they move the traps without getting sprayed, however. I think they dump the traps in a garbage can full of water to kill them, but somewhere along the way I would think the skunks would fire one off?!?

That show "Billy The Exterminator" had an episode where he caught a skunk in a trap and moved it without getting sprayed...he used a moving blanket over the cage and moved it VERY SLOWLY. He didn't get sprayed.

If you use a pellet gun, be sure it is not some whimpy toy. Get a pump type gun, preferably using .22 cal pellets. The .17 pellets sometimes don't have enough umph to penetrate.

My wife has shot several dogs with a pellet pistol while on her walks in the country. Doesn't seem to punch any holes.

Good Luck,

Jim Henderson

A ticket, heck here it would be 5 years in jail for shooting one of those stinky fellows.

I was considering a cross bow, but then I figured he'd just run out into the street with the arrow hanging out of him....

The neighbor lady says putting urine in the area they like drives 'em off....()

I bought a 1000 fps .177 pellet gun, but it had a hard time on a pigeon in the garage, so maybe the .22 with about 800 fps--about the same as a .22 short--would work.

Note some have a noise suppressor, but appear to be .177, good for 1200 fps with the pba pellets. Energy is probably an issue there, and you'll just put a hole in his gut & it'll take him a day or two to die--probably under your house.

Gamo Air Rifles pellet guns air rifles

I thought I'd do it this way if they come back. (they moved on recently)

Use the trap, and pre-rig it with a tarp so I can cover it once the critter is in there and I'm sure it's a skunk and not a cat.

Do the head shot through the trap at close range with the pellet gun, with the tarp keeping me clear of sprayage.

OR

Batten down the tarp and hose the car exhaust into it....

Kids get real upset when I talk about whacking critters...wait till one of them gets sprayed.

hmm..only one flaw that i see in your theory however.. if you through a trap over it.. how are you going to tell where the head is?? just curious..
