my money...your engine.

I have made several lists for several engines that I have. But I want a little help on this one. I want yall to gimme your input on what you would want to do to a 74 351w if you had around 6k to throw at it.

I am looking to get around or upwards of 450 of both horsepower and torque with a peak rpm of about 5500. I have several ideas for this thing but one is sticking and it shall stay. I want it stroked out to 408 and if bored no more then .30 over. So counting that what would you do with the rest of the money to get that or more power. Not just some afr heads ... what heads as in name and number. By everything i am talking from the intake down to the reverse sump pan that i have to have for differential clearance! Even if it means a crate engine!

To make this a little more fun, who ever has the best idea that i like and it will actually work I might just buy you a membership to this place and a sticker on my jeep saying its your engine...you know something tacky and classy!

So lets see what you got....

quick fuel carb, vic jr intake, Twisted wedge 205's, 408 rotating assembly, custom cam.
Since the block is a 74 roller cam/lifters is out, so I'd use a solid flat tappet (plus it sounds cooler).

If you were willing to use another block, I'd sell that block, and buy a short block from FordStrokers. That way roller cam could be used too.

Only thing you didn't mention, if you have this engine and $6k to spend, do you already have a trans to stand behind it?
Best of luck.

At this point I am running a T-18, Thats one reason id like to have a short rpm range but I plan on swapping it out for something else with a few more teeth, although I dont use this for highway just very little street. Its 98% trail only, So the gears are actually kinda nice. Its paired with a dana 300 with the 4:1 in it.

As of now I have a HD shafts for the tranny laying around. As well as a gm big bearing 14 bolt and a king pin 60 for the front.

So strength isnt much of a problem.

Sounds a lot like the combo I suggested in this thread.. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...tor-ideas.html
