pending tire purchase

I have a 2002 EX with a v 10 i need new tires. I want to try to fill up my wheel wells a little so i want to go from the 265/75/16 to a 285/75/16. I have read about the 285/75/16 and the 305/70/16 and from the tire calculators i have used the two of these tire sizes measure out identical. I want to know by going to a larger tire what will happen to my mpgs and what effect does it have on braking and brake life due to the extra tire mass. As always thanks for your help.

If you keep to those sizes you probably won't notice much in mileage loss. Braking will require more the larger you go.

I've had two Excursions- a 2000 Limited 4x4 7.3 and a 2002 Limited Ultimate 4x4 7.3.
Both lost just slightly under 2 mpg's going to 285's from the stock 265's . The y2k lost 1.6, the '02 1.8. This is calculated mileage averaged on an Excel program from dozens of fill-ups over tens of thousands of miles.
I like the look of the taller tire, so the loss in mileage is worth it, however I'm coming up on another tire change, and am considering the same height with a little less width.
