96 Bronco engine swap.

I just bought a 91 couger with a 5.0 HO motor to put in my 96 bronco with a 5.0. Based on what I had read on here I felt I should stay away from the HO motor due to low end torque and also the firing order.I asked the guy on the phone if it was an HO and he said no.Well needless to say last nite at 10 in the evening the guy shows up and we pop the hood and its an HO. He had to tow the car on a dolly a considerable distance and I felt bad for the guy so I took the car. I made a call today to a guy who does alot of Ford truck work and he told me if I took it down to the bare block and put all the accessories including the cam from my bronco 5.0 I should be just fine. It seems like there are alot of very knowledgeable Ford guys in here and if anybody has time tonite to give me a little feedback it would be greatly appreciated. As it is planned to start on pulling the motor tommorrow morning.

96 Bronco engine swap.

Just swap the cam, intake, oil pan, and accessories, and leave the rest in it. The HO block should have forged pistons in it(durability!!), and a factory double roller timing chain in it(you might also get a cloyes replacement double row chain while you are at it). While you have the pan off, get a 1 piece rubber reinforced pan gasket(it should be factory anyway), fel pro gaskets for the rest. No need to blow apart a good motor, although it having to be towed over there is not a good sign....by the way what part of the country are you located in? (just nosy if there are any other parts available off of the car....)

I posted that the Bronco is a 96 it is actually a 95. Does this change any thing? The car had been hit in the front. The motor sounds great. The car is drivable.I am in Salem County in South NewJersey if you want to come look at the car. It is a 91 XR I believe. Really nice car except for the front end damage. Also while I have it tore down this far is there any thing else you would recommend. Thanks again!

Well, as I am in Beaverton, Oregon, that doesn't help me a bit(LOL). Anyway, I might put in a new set of main and rod bearings, a possbily a new standard volume oil pump. The stock HO forged piston short blocks are capable of 500-600 hp, with nitrous, turbos, superchargers, even with 100,000 miles or more. I might get on to the Super Coupe Club of America website, their classified section, and run a parts list for sale, there alot of owners on that site in your area. The only thing that I could afford to buy AND afford shipping on, would be the steering wheel (I am looking to upgrade my mom's Sport Coupe T-bird steering wheel), if it is any better than my mom's. No change in the model year difference on the bronco......

Well the motor has finally been installed after weeks of delay for one reason or another. At idle it runs nice but between 1500 to 2200 rpms it is a dog and vibrates alot.If you stomp on it it seems to do better just by keeping the tach out of that range.Could I possibly have some air conversion work to do?Even if you nail it, it really doesn't have alot of power it just doesnt vibrate as much. Also when you put it in gear it vibrates.Could it be computer related? HELP!

Something I just noticed today was that the cam from the Bronco and the cam from the HO motor look almost identical except the HO cam has alot more duration. I have the old cam from the Bronco and put a brand new factory replacement cam in while we had the motor out. I am going to take it down to a local shop Monday and get them to scan it and see if there are any obvious problems. Has any body in here actually done this change over? I did everything as stated in previous posts and now I'm getting wore down a little, although I am learning alot in the process. As I asked before could it have something to do with the differences in the motors interacting with the computer. PLEASE HELP! I WILL SEND MONEY TO THE PERSON WHO SETS ME STRAIGHT.

You use the bronco cam not the HO cam right? It should be pretty much the same as it was before. You may want to run it through some of the diagnostic tests and see if it throwing any codes for sensors. Also check your throttle position sensor to see if it is sending out the right voltages.

Unfortunately I only know how to do this stuff on mustangs. But it must be similar. Check this page out:
