exhaust question

ok guys,, another question. 2005 F250 powerstroke. stock exhaust for now,, going bigger later. At this time i have no muffler and a gutted converter. I"M interested in taking the converter off and just a straight pipe. Remember its already gutted,, would it make any difference in the sound. I"m hoping yall will say yes and now the exhaust is kinda messing around in there before it comes out. I"m getting ready to do it so any help would be great. Just wanted to see if it was worth the problem of inspections. but i think i got that covered.. thanks again..

If the converter is completely gutted, the only thing you will gain by completely removing it is maybe a couple dbl. Probably not enough to notice.

You basically made yourself a hollow chamber of turbulence when you gutted the cat. Since the cat is gutted I'd take it off, stick a piece of exhaust pipe through inlet to outlet (weld pipe in place) and reinstall the cat. Looks like the stock converter but with the flow of a piece of straight pipe.

So, in the end you did nothing more than make the truck louder and pollute the air a bit more? No point. You sure will have a fun time getting it inspected and getting a good trade in value.

well thanks for the reply,, if you are worried about pollution,, maybe get in touch with the ones responsible with the oil leak, dumping tons and tons of gallons of oil in our waters,, i dont want to hear anything about these trucks, (whatever we do to them),, when our "so called" important people of the country pay hardly no attention to a major crisis to a problem we have in the gulf.
also,, as far as inspection,, that is no problem,, i'm 52 years old and have enough sense before i do something to make sure i can get it inspected. Matter of fact,, i got it inspected today after i just did it..
and i never plan on trading it in,, i like my truck,, and sense i own my own business, when i'm tired of it, i'll make it a work truck,, but thanks again.
