Help! Please

My husband owns a 97 F250 7.3L diesel. There is a plastic ring dangling on the axel housing behind the pass. side wheel. He says it's nothing to worry about, but I'm thinking maybe it's an accident waiting to happen. Does anyone know what this white plastic ring is? It's about 2 to 3" in dia. Thank you.

Welcome to FTE it sounds like a dust seal and if that is the case no biggie. I moved your thread to a more specific forum. These guys will take good care of you here!

I'm not sure what that could be.

Any way you could get a picture of it and post it?

It's probably the dust seal like Megawatt said. It is a hard plastic like ring with a wire inside it. Not a big deal. Cut it off.

Is this on the front or rear?
Is it 4X4 or 2WD?

White ring on the housing is what confuses me. If it is on the axle shaft itself, then it could be a seal like others said.
