As soon as I get my 95 sold I will be looking for a camper special. I am picking up a 78 250 4wd next week for parts.
I was just gonna use it until I found out about the camper specials.

Thanks for the help guys.

Do all of the camper special beds have the hidden spare?

I may be confusing things again, but I believe there was a camper special package (maybe it was a trailer special) that was still on a 133" wb. So you're looking for the 140" wb called a SUPER camper special from 73-76 and simply a camper special from 77-79. So as long as you find a 140" wb, you'll find what you say you're looking for.

Thanks. Yeah the 140 " is the way to go I think. I believe the extended cab swb had a wheel base of 139" but could you cut off the frame to fit the camper special bed on it? The regular bed is about a foot longer behind the axle.

I guess that's about it for now. Thanks for the help.

For the sake of clarity, use the term "short wheel base" (SWB) and "long wheel base" (LWB) and second, use the term regular cab, super cab, and crew cab.

I'd like to see someone do crew cab on a SWB frame. .. that means a really short bed. The proportions would be similar to the Hummer H2 SUT.

I have been using those except the super cab part. Wouldnt a crew on a swb frame wind up with the tires about 8 inches into the back of the cab?

My bad. My apologies... all the crosstalk with short beds and WBs of 117, 133 and 140 got me all confused.

Yeah, a crew cab on a SWB would require some mods.... I didn't say it would be easy but I'm sure it'll be only a matter of time when an FTE'er with a welder and plasma cutter goes to work building one. I think it would be ultra-cool and very unique.

... the rear floor would have to be channeled too unless it had a body lift.

Not exactly what you want - but it fits the topic.

This one was modified to fit on a stock, 2004 Dodge 2500 longbed chassis.
Front end was stretched and rear was shortened. I would have done without stretching the heed/fenders myself, but the guy is a good body guy and it looked nice.

Black truck is not mine - the white one being towed away in the last pic was...

great pics. If I went with a LWB frame, thats about what it would look like. Thats why I was wondering about the camper special. The wheel well moved back about a foot would have made the bed look so much better.

I just think if he wouldn't have stretched the front (about 10" to a foot if I remember right) then he could have used that in front of the rear wheel and added it to the bed and it would look great. It's too symmetrical now - with the hood being about as long as the bed - just looks "off" too me.

It actually has a bit of a hummer look on the front end. I woulda definitely gone with more bed and less hood.
