I'm not sure if you are suggesting that the air no longer blows through the defrost vents, if it only blows through the defrost vents, and/or if the air is no longer cold.
Does the engine idle smoothly, just higher than usual, or is the idle rough? Does it seem less powerful than usual?
Look for a leaking vacuum line for the vent controls in the engine compartment. They can be chafed or cracked. Going to defrost is the default for the vent control door. A vacuum leak will also cause a rough idle.
