I just want to say thanks to the people that posted info about the #4 coil pack problem. My sister has a 98 EXP with the 5.4 and has approx 72,000 miles on it. She told me that she filled it up and left the gas station and it just started running rough and the check engine light came on. My first thought was that she just got a tank full of water or crud. I changed the fuel filter and added a can of drygas. The motor still ran rough. Then I checked this message board and found out about coil problem. I removed the coil and found cracks on the side and bottom. I replaced the coil for $42.00 and reset the check engine light. The motor now runs fine. I did not however find the coolant hoses to be leaking. Is it possible that condensation from the A/C lines is dripping on the coil? Has anyone made a drip cover or shield for the coil?
Thanks again,
ECR

Isn't the 'Net terrific!

Seems there was a TSB about AC condensation- I just can't remember what it was. Maybe someone will come along and give the number &/or fix.

The A/C condensation issue was with the HEGO sensor, not the coil. The coil was damaged by seepage from the heater supply hose connection on the engine above the coil. After driving the vehicle, as soon as it is cool enough to touch, feel the end of the heater hose above the coil. If your finger comes back dry, there is no leak. If it comes back wet, tighten the clamp.
