I have a 79 F150 4x4 that's been sitting in my driveway for about a year, while I've been doing some TLC on her. Well, the town is complaining now, and I need to move it into the garage. Since, she doesn't run at the moment and there's about a 2 inch difference from driveway (pea-gravel) to garage floor, I'm thinking pushing it in is not going to happen. Thinking of getting an inexpensive winch to mount (securely) to garage wall and pull it in.
With the truck in neutral, what size winch would I need?
hand push it to the door, then use a 2 ton come-along to pull it up, then hand push til the other tires get there, and then do the same. Otherwise, you can carefully push it in with another vehicle, just put something soft between the vehicles. I have used tires, but you have to be careful with positioning or you can cause damage.
I dunno how your garage is built but theres a pretty good chance you'd rip the mounting out of the wall. Your average modern home construction isn't going to withstand that kind of pulling pressure! if I were you I'd just push it forward, jack it up from inside the garage. slide it forward on the jack, set it down, and do the same for the rear. Or just offer a friend a 6 pack to help push it. it only took 3 of us to push my 78 up a set of trailer ramps and onto a 5th wheel trailer and I guarantee that was steeper than the step into your garage!
It isn't like it is dead weight, it is just a roller. I have done that with 2x4 walls before with no damage. You obviously have to mount it a bit better than just a few screws into the board...
