Charging system
HI
I am new to this forum and I am glad to be here. I am a member of several others and think they are one of the better things about the internet.
I am having a problem with my father-in-laws Ford truck and hope I can find some help.
It is a 1999 F-250, 7.3L, Super Duty. He just changed all 8 injectors and a couple of glow plugs.
IT started up good but after running for a shot time it just died like shutting the key off. Tried to start it and the batteries were dead. Charged them up, truck started and ran until the charge went out of the batteries and died. Pulled the alternator had it checked, it was bad and replaced it. Charged the batteries and the same thing happened again. The alternator gets extremely hot during this time. The truck runs great until the batteries run down. Any Ideas?

Welcome to FTE,
I it sounds as if the batteries are so run down that they will not hold a charge, I would pull them both and have them load tested. If the alternator is that hot it is working too hard to maintain a charge on them. Also double check all the connections to make sure all is clean and there is no corrosion on them.

Thanks for the info. I checked everything again this morning, made sure all connections were good. The batteries had charged up to 100% overnite. Started it up and every thing was running great. Alternator is putting out 14.4 and is not getting as hot. Might have had a lose connection some where. Seems to be ok, thanks again for the help.
