Remove #1 plug(passenger side front), put a thumb over the hole and crank the motor over with a breaker bar, when you get air being pushed out past your thumb you know the piston is comming up on the compression stroke. Now put a small piece of rigid wire in the hole to feel when the piston is at TDC and check to see if the crank pointer is also showing TDC, if it isn't that may be a sign that the balancer has slipped. Once you have that stab the distributor so the rotor points at the #1 post on the cap when fully seated and with the distributor body sitting with the TFI module(or the mounting surface on the distributor for the module on remote module trucks)at the 5 O-clock position when viewed from above.

Leave the clamp bolt just loose enough that the distributor can be turned and try starting the motor, if it doesn't quite catch turn it a little in the clockwise direction and try again.
