I have an 89 F150 that has been giving me elec troubles lately.
My latest is when I turn the key to start the engine I get a loud click from the starter. I checked all the connections and the relay and all checked out good. I even tied to short circuit the starter to the battery to test if it would turn over. Just a loud click. I did put a multimeter across the engine ground and the large cable going to the the starter(cable not connected to anything but the starter) and read a dead short.
Do I have a bad starter?
I also found that my stepson ran the truck completely dry of oil. Could a frozen engine cause the starter to short or to click and then disengage?
