Have you checked for codes? (Use Search function if you don't know how to check for them) Have you tried turning OD off?

Well, I'll tell ya what helped to diagnose my transmission troubles; I pulled the codes which indicated there was a problem with my 2nd gear solenoid circuit. One solenoid pack later, problem solved.

Try this link for a tutorial on how to get those codes.

Other than that, get an Equus/Innova #3145 OBD1 reader from Checker/Shucks/O'Reilly/Kragen/Autozone. You get the idea. About $30 street.

The trouble codes will help to diagnose the problem.

Also, is the CEL on or is the OD light in the shifter blinking?

CEL = Check Engine Light. It might be a good idea to replace that OD light, too.
