my vote goes to a cracked frame, right along the steering box somewhere. that's what killed my 85. barely noticeable even up close with a good light source. check it out just for the hell of it. 80-83 have junk frames with speed holes and they seem to fail a lot.
Check kingpins for sure and like alpha says put more preload in them by putting in a couple 7/8 washers. Other than that check all steering rod ends having someone turn the tires from side to side while tires are on the ground. A big one is also having balanced tires. If theyre bigger than 36's I'd running balancing beads in the inside to balance them. Not a bad idea to change the leaf spring bushings as well. I had bad DW and I changed all of that and it fixed it so I didnt really pin point which exact one it was. Another helpful trick is to run Hydro assist steering as you will gain WAY better steering power but the ram acts like the best stabilizer you can get locking your wheels in a straight line. Nite and day difference after I installed mine and it cruises nice on the highway even with 44's...
If your still running the front swing shackle then yes, you do need a trac-bar. I had the death wobble with rebuilt kingpins and only 37's. Washer in the cap really helped alot.
