the free ones =) there are some really useful ones like flashlight, bar code reader, scanner, tides, kelly blue book (love that one for used car shopping)
Whats an "Iphone"? What are they really good for? I've heard of them but never saw the need for them except "Having the coolest thing since transistors." I still think cell phones and internet and all this is a phase that will pass like everything else.
I don't have an Iphone, but I have the Droid which also has downloadable apps.
In addition to the ones already mentioned (especially the flashlight and the barcode scanner) I use My Tracks by Google Inc. a lot. It creates a track of where I've traveled that I can then upload (choice of three different) to my computer. Its great for work (I'm reimbursed for my mileage) and even better for offroading. It will even track me when I go into Mexico. Also, a cell signal or data connection isn't required to record my track.
I also like the Navigation app. I can display in either map mode or satellite mode and I have the option to tilt the navigation display so it looks like the view out of my windshield. In the satellite mode and the tilted navigation display, the screen actually shows what it looks like driving down the street! Plus, it shows a picture (google maps street view) of your destination.
Another cool app is Translate by Cedric Beust. Its one of the most accurate translation programs I've ever used.
Of course the 10,001 cocktails app also has its merits
One of my favorites is "Cell Phone Tracker". You ask your buddy standing next to you to "Watch this..." and type in his cell number and hit "track". You'll both watch the phone screen slowly expand to zoom in on a map pinpointing his phone's location (fairly accurately, I might add).
At this point, most of the friends to whom I have shown this start freaking out to one degree or another until I calm them down by explaining it is a joke app that is really just locating my phone (just like google maps does).
I had one guy rant for a solid 10 minutes about how wrong it was that I have this capability. I had to take ten more minutes to convince him it was a joke!
But my teenage daughter thinks its real, and I am going to continue to let her believe that.
Depending on what kind of phone your daughter has there are apps out there that would let you track her phone you just have to download the app to her phone too and install it.
