I have a 1984 Ford f250 with a 351W. My grandfather and I got done yesterday with rebuilding the carb. The truck now runs great all besides the choke. When i go to start the truck it seems to flood. I turned back on the choke stove to get it leaner and its working now but since its my daily driver id like to have a bit better choke control. My choke is heated by tht heat off the motor and does not have an electrical choke. I talked to my grandfather who was a mechanic for many years and he suggested a manual choke for the winter due to this being his old truck and Ive seen it be a pain to start in the cold. I found this conversion on summit Holley 45-225S - Holley Manual Choke Kits - Application - SummitRacing.com
It doesn't have the 2150 carb on the carbs that it applies but I was wondering if this would work to convert my carb over to a manual choke.
Just go to the local parts store and buy one. They should carry them. So long as the round black piece in the kit will fit where your choke goes, it should fit.
If you want the manual choke to work well, I recommend you carefully scope out a area behind the firewall where you can drill a hole inline with the choke, and mount the handle for the choke under the ash tray at a 45 degree angle. This will make the cable short, with only that one bend, and it will work nice. Follow the instructions and make sure you use the complicated little bracket with the little brass setscrew piece, and the kickdown will work. It's a nice setup if done correctly.
Several other vehicles I always tried to run the cable around and down through the firewall around the steering column. It never worked very well, too much cable and too many bends.
I looked at the local advanced auto but those universal ones looked really cheap. Id rather get something a little better than that and the kit looked a bit beefier. Just want to make sure that the kit would work before I ordered the kit and found out it was the wrong thing.
