I have an 87 f150 5.0L truck. I am going to pull the engine and put it into my jeep cj7. does anyone know what wiring and electronics I need to remove with the engine that make it run? I know I will need to use an electric fuel pump, instead of a mechanical pump like I have now, but am not sure what all computer type parts I need from the truck. any help or advice is appreciated.
The EFI motor is becomming a common swap for the early Broncos. I am finally getting things together for doing two of them. Check out the post in early Broncos. It has some good links to exactly what you want.
at the bare minimum, you are going to need the ecm, the dist, and the injector harness that came in the ford. depending on what year the cj7 is will determine how much of what is left you will have to need. my advice is take every wire harness attached the engine and every module those harnesses attach to.
the jeep is a 78. I don't need to meet any emissions regulations here in michigan for an off road vehicle. I would like to eliminate as much of the emissions equipment as possible, if the engine will run without that stuff, like the egr and thermactor. can I eliminate that stuff without adverse effects on the engine's performance? I would like to have as few wires and sensors as I can and still have the engine/fuel injection operate smoothly. any advice or opinions are appreciated.
thanks

I would be more worried about the efi clearing the hood. I might try to adapt a mustang system to your current engine setup, and use a mass airflow system to allow for mods later on.....just a thought.....
