New to towing this weight (bout 18k total). Especially up mtns. I have an 04 350 srw cc auto. Seeing if there were any tricks to stay locked in and how i can accomplish this. Seems like i stayed in 3rd the whole way up runnin about 50 mph. (i also have the train whistle) Seems likeim "killin" the truck?
like sandman said put it in tow/haul and keep that right foot down. and wave at the gassers as you go past hehe. also i wish someone could figure out why these trucks whistle mine does the same thing as everyone else
If you should start running hot, drop down to about 45 and pull the shifter into 3rd leaving it in the tow/haul mode. She will cool down in about 3 minutes. Let the gearing do the work not the engine.
I actually have a similiar question. Last week while towing my 8K camper I was approaching a hill at about 60mph. As I started up the hill, the truck dropped a gear ( I think only 1 gear), and the boost shot up to 32 psi. That seems a bit high to me, any comments? While not towing I never see over 26 psi even if I put it to the floor. EOT and ECT looked great while towing the hill and trans never went over 190*. I just cleaned the turbo about 2 months ago and my major turbo lag and farts stopped after the cleaning. Is this 32 psi safe or should I be concerned. The truck is stocked tuned only.

What kind weight and grade are you pulling up?
In BC we have mountain passes that last 25-30 minutes at 5-8-10% grades.
I'm about to pull my 10k unit over the mountains and trying to figure if it's less strain to push it over at 55-60 or crawl up in ahigher gear at 40-45
I just finished a trip from Princeton BC to Canmore AB, pulling a 30' 5th wheel. Pulled some pretty good grades through the mountains. Truck ran like a champ. I never saw over 1100 EGT's or 200 tranny temps.
I pulled the whole trip in tow/haul. I could pull most hills at the posted limit. The tow/haul is nice coming down some of the bigger hills.
Anything above 28 on a stock truck and I start worrying about head gaskets.
Any idea on what would cause me to see 32...only while towing. Truck runs great under all conditions. EGR is deleted the rest is stock. Turbo was really acting up but I cleaned it and it seems fine now. When it hit 32 I would back out of the gas, but that surely makes climbing a hill very difficult.

Maybe one of the techs will chime in but I have never seen over 28 pulling the 31' 5er in my sig. Longest grade was 12 miles @ 8%.
When I pulled 30+ psi, I was worried. Strange thing is once it hit that number it slowly came down to 20-25psi ( without a drop in load). I do know I have a leak in th lower IC side pipe. Maybe that is what was causing the drop in presure.
