: As many of you know, I had my truck for sale. I thought I had clutch problems and i did. They were also compounded by a failing transmission and the need for a complete tire replacement.
So, I did my research on KBB and Edmunds and I listed her on Craigs list for $2200.
I sold her today for $1800
I admit, I'm a little bothered right now even more than I thought I would be. I've had her for so long and she's been a damned good truck.
Now I have room in the stable for a 2011 F150/250.
Yeah, but are you going to be able to fit an Inline 6 in that 2011 F series?
Well, I've had two 300's and I don't care to have another. Don't get me wrong, fantastic engine but Ford sees fit to run awfully tall gears behind it. And when re-geared, she's a gas hog from hell.
hey senior,
i know what ya mean....i sold my 78 camper special (460/c6/dana 60) about 6 months ago, and i miss her almost every day.....i bought her to pull the boat......sold the boat, and she sat in the yard for 9 months unused..... but i still have that nagging feeling i let a good thing go....
lol, i just realized i called you senior.....12 years in the navy will do that to ya i reckon.....where were ya stationed ?
Ah, well they're not everyone's cup of tea. I wish you luck.
I'm not sure either if the 4.6 or 5.4 liter engines have fixed that spark plug problem, so you might want to pop'em out when they're cold and put some dielectric grease on the threads. The whole problem is that after the recommended time to replace them, they are rust-welded in and tend to snap off in the head.
Also watch out for any indication of the windshield leaking, it's supposed to cause nasty gremlins in the electrical stuff that are insanely hard to track back to water damage on the fuse box.
I'm not trying to talk bad about'em just giving you something to look out for when you're on the prowl. They're pretty sturdy, dependable and get pretty nice gas mileage dependably.
Also check into an OBD-2 ScanGauge I think they're called. About $100-300 but you can tune your truck with it and more, so you can have an economy mode, towing, performance and so forth.
As I recall it also will show just about any sensor reporting so you can use it as an extra set of gauges too!

Thank you sir, I've been to most places between San Diego and Virginia and hawai'i.

That's why I'm getting the 2011. Mod motors will be gone.

The reason that Ford put taller gears with that combination is that its makes its power in the lower RPM range. I will agree though that some of our trucks have come with the 300 and 2.73 gears from the factory. I don't get that one.
